Yasser Badry 1-22-2022 The Council of Ministers, headed by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, approved a draft law amending some provisions of the Law Regulating the Practice of Private Work No. 149 of 2019, extending the period for regularizing the status of civil society organizations for a period of another year starting from the expiration date of the period mentioned in Article Two of the Articles of Issuance of the Law on January 11, 2022. It ends on January 11, 2023, which coincides with the President of the Republic’s declaration of 2022 as the Year of Civil Society. The Ministry of Social Solidarity announced that about 32,000 associations and civil society organizations have completed the electronic registration procedures to regularize their statuses, including 28,000 applications with complete documents, with the expectation that extending the status reconciliation period will open the way for the registration of more emerging civil society organizations characterized by broad youth participation. Al-Qabbaj said that the aim of the draft law submitted by the Ministry of Social Solidarity is to provide an additional period of time for all civil society organizations in Egypt to register and reconcile the situation, especially since the precautionary measures adopted by the state to confront the Covid-19 pandemic have prevented some civil society organizations from holding meetings. Extraordinary general assemblies to approve executive regulations, rules and procedures, in addition to the Ministry’s understanding that the electronic system that has been developed may require a longer time for some associations to absorb all the regulatory procedures that must be completed. Nevin Al-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity, praised the Cabinet’s approval, which reflects the state’s appreciation of all its institutions for the great role played by civil society in Egypt, and its keenness to provide it with all means of support, while providing the necessary facilities to reconcile its situation, enhance its efficiency, and highlight its achievements in all governorates across the republic. It is worth noting that all international organizations operating in Egypt have submitted files to reconcile their status, which confirms the confidence of these organizations in increasing the space and freedom of civil work in Egypt in accordance with what was stipulated in the law, in addition to the desire to establish long-term partnerships with Egyptian organizations. .
